MEET THE OWNER....
David Hines has been involved his music his whole life. His musical journey started at age five with the study of violin, which he continued with through until his late teens obtaining honours in the Grade 7 A.M.E.B examinations. Around the age of ten he heard the call of rock and roll and started playing both guitar and piano. He joined his first band at fourteen playing guitar and continued his violin studies, being involved with the Sydney Youth Orchestra.
In his late teens and early twenties David was a member of several prominent Sydney bands on the pub circuit including "Matinee Idyll" and "Guys That Are Fun", playing a variety of instruments including keyboard, guitar, bass and drums. Around this time he also began composing music for film and television and in 1982 won an award for a series of TV ads made for the Commonwealth Games.
David started his career in the sales side of the industry in 1980 at a small music store in Burwood Sydney. He joined the Palings organisation in 1983 and rose to become group product manger for the company in charge of GMI. Moving to the wholesale side of the industry in 1986 he joined Australis Music Group, Australia's largest importer and wholesaler. In 1987 David moved to New Zealand to establish the NZ division of Australis and ran this very successfully for ten years.
Following his return to Australia in 1996 David decided to establish a quality music store in the Sutherland Shire and in April 1999 opened the doors of Shire Music Centre. He has remained involved in the performance side of music and has recently written a stage musical Class of 77 which is currently enjoying great succes.
David looks forward to meeting you in store soon!
